An Industrial Degreaser Can Remove Heavy Grease

By Essie Craft

Restaurant equipment can generate a lot of oil and grease waste when in use. Some pieces of equipment, like fryers, use upward of forty pounds worth of vegetable or animal fats to prepare food for their customers. Many of the foods that are deep fried also release a considerable amount of grease as they cook and break down in the hot oil. Greases can spill over the sides of the equipment and build up on the tops and sides of the fryers and ovens. A good industrial degreaser can clean this mess up, but one should follow certain steps to make sure the job is done correctly.

The degreasers are normally strong solvents that eat away at oils and greases. They can also dissolve the natural oils found on the skin of the workers. A worker who is going to be using these solvents to clean should make sure they have taken precautions to protect themselves.

A good way to protect oneself from this happening is to wear thick plastic gloves that keep the degreasers from coming into contact with skin. The solvents can be put into a bucket to carry around and clean surfaces. A person sticking their hands into the buckets without protection can become dry and crack open. Protecting the eyes is just as important. The solvents can splash and some can get into the eyes. This could cause damage and make it so a person might have difficulty seeing.

The degreasers that a restaurant purchases can come as concentrated mixtures that can be used at a high strength. The concentrates can also be diluted to take care of smaller jobs such as wiping down counters and tables. The higher the concentration the more one has to make sure they are wearing protective gear.

Using the cleaners is their most concentrated form can help to remove the grease build up on fryer or oven. Before using either method, one should make sure the equipment they are cleaning is shut off and safe to work on. A hot oven or fryer could burn someone badly if they have not cooled down before cleaning.

These steps should be followed to remove heavy grease. Soak the build up with a strong solution of the solvents. Wait for twenty to thirty minutes before scrubbing to allow the cleaner to soak into the mess and loosen it up. The more the cleaner is allowed to work the easier the job should be to do.

One may have to repeat the process several times before they can get down to the metal of a fryer or oven. A worker should expect to scrub a little. Make sure if the worker is scrubbing shiny metal that an abrasive pad is used to prevent scratching.

The buildup of oils and greases in busy commercial restaurants can cause a big mess that can be hard to clean up. Many managers have their cleaning personnel use an industrial degreaser to cut through the mess to get their equipment looking clean and new. One should be careful when using these degreasers to make sure no harm is done.
