Here Is Information On Egyptian Mau For Sale

By Pamela Baker

Dogs are the most popular pets followed by cats. This means that there is a high demand for pet cats. Thus, there are several breeders who breed and sell them. There are also several cat breeds and one of them is the Egyptian Mau. This is worth knowing about Egyptian mau for sale.

This breed of cat is currently one of the oldest cat breeds that exist. The origin of this breed can be traced to the Egyptian civilization. Its name comes from the Egyptian name mjw which when translated to English means cat. The spotted felines that are portrayed in palaces and pharaonic temples inspire the theory that the cats have their origin in Egypt.

It is not yet proven if the mau and the cats depicted in Pharaonic palaces are the same even though the two have close resemblance. People just assume that the maus originated from Egypt because of the depictions. Due to lack of another theory that suggests the origin of maus, the assumption made about maus and their origin in Egypt is widely accepted.

Europe is another location that may be a possible point of origin of maus. Some DNA results from the cat showed that Europe as a continent might actually be its source. Additionally, there is some familiarities between the maus and European kittens like the Turkish Angora which was bred in the United States. The theory that maus originated from Egypt is supported by the presence of spotted cats in Egypt.

This breed of cat was popular some years before the Second World War. They were bred in high numbers by several cat fanciers and were also put on display in a number of shows in Europe. As the Second World War began, these cats were neglected to the point that they almost became extinct.

Luckily, in the 1950s, Natalie Trubetskaya saved the breed when she started to import the breed from the Middle East and bred them. Natalie was living in Italy at the time. When Natalie later migrated to the state of New York in the US, she brought with her three Maus. The three cats would alter be used to start an entire cattery of Egyptian Maus.

In the United States currently, most Maus that are in existence can trace their origin to the three Maus that were carried by Natalie back in the 1950s. There was also the importation of more cats of this breed as well as crossbreeding with other breeds to create other species. The popularity of this cat breed has grown such that by 2014, it was the 20th most popular breed of cat.

An interesting fact about this breed is that it is the only breed that is naturally spotted among cats. This breed is the ancestor of all spotted cats. For this reason, Maus have a distinguished status in the cat world. They usually have a small head, large eyes and small paws with a slender muscled body. They are also the fastest domestic cats.
