Reconsider These Things Before Becoming Siberian Cat Breeders

By Ryan Meyer

Owning a cat is one thing but breeding is nowhere near the scope of ownership alone. To venture in this activity is a feat. This is taking the love for a specific breed and making it into a full blown devotion. But who can blame cat lovers, these creatures are just so pure and adorable.

Pure bred kittens are adorable and have great temperament. Siberian cats are especially tamed and affectionate which makes them a great choice. Like all registered Siberian Cat breeders Georgia has a wide array of selections to choose from. If one wants to be a part of this breeder society, there are some prerequisites to consider.

There are many expenses involved in this hobby. If one is doing this for fast money, prepare to be sorely disappointed. A reputation in the feline showing and breeding community is something that is needed to get that kind of financial success. Prepare for spending most on food, supplies and medical bills. But love for the creature should go beyond these challenges.

Whether one is breeds to have a great show cat or for selling, resulting to a good outcome will never be an accident. Details about bloodline, genetic history and even bone structure play a great part. There is also merit in getting two very compatible Siberian cats to mate. Doing this does not happen by chance and require a certain level of expertise.

Associating with other cattery hobbyist helps establish a good network. They can offer tips and expert advice on the undertaking and may even offer assistance. This also builds credibility and reputation within the community.

Basic responsibilities include grooming, cleaning and feeding the litter. All these, and monitoring, especially with a pregnant feline can be an all day task. This will ensure that the creatures will remain healthy and pristine. Doing this prepares the felines for showmanship and purchase. Expect not to have time for going on long trips out of town.

Any cat owner knows that some damage is due to be inflicted to furniture and decorations at home. Casualties should be expected especially with the amount of fur that Siberian felines are known to shed. They tend to create a close bond with their owners by marking their territory in quite an unpleasant manner.

It is not recommended to buy many cats to start with. Best to start out with one or two females, also known as queens. For beginner breeders it is best to mate the female with the male cat of another instead of breeding the male yourself. But if there is a male cat in the cattery, make sure that he is separated from the females so he does not have access to them the whole time.

The process involved in mating the queen with a stud is more difficult than expected. The breeder still has to find the right one to mate the female with. After finding the right stud, the owner of that male will have to ask for a fee. A responsible owner would also insist on certification that the cat they are mating with is safe from any dangerous and contagious cat diseases.
