The treatment comes in form of psychotherapy and counseling, and careful attention to medical and nutritional needs. Treatment should be specific to each patient so as to cater for their individual problems and focus on their strengths and weaknesses.

Since the number of people with a problem of eating can be big, handling them in groups is usually much better and easier. Having a group therapy will go a long way in helping boost their esteem since one knows they are not suffering alone. The professional handling the group should be honest and constant to the patients, as this will help fasten their healing process.

These disorders can develop at any stage of life but typically appear during the teen and young adulthood stages. If one has a problem with their eating habit or has a friend or a family member suffering from the same, it is important to take action as soon as possible to help them combat it. They can be life threatening if they are not dealt with in a timely manner.
