Information On Fishing Creek Childcare

By Susan Butler

Childcare also goes by many other names including child minding, child care, preschool, and daycare. Child care is the process of offering care and supervision to children. This process starts at the age of 1.5 months and may end when one reaches 13 years. Examples of care providers include babysitters, daycare centers, au pair, and nannies. In Fishing Creek childcare is a huge industry with many business and hundreds of workers.

Child minding may sound like a shallow term but it covers a wide range of contexts, activities, cultural conventions, institutions, and social conventions. There are a few types of child care facilities in existence including family child care/licensed home day care, in-home care, center-based care, and informal care. Responsibility for children is traditionally taken up by legal guardians or parents.

In western societies, working parents are normally left with two options of how to care for their children. The two options are either leaving the child in home-based care or center-based care. In some situations, it is possible for the extended family to provide care. If the option of legal guardians, parents, or extended family is not available, the child usually remains in orphanages or foster homes.

Licensed home day care also goes by the name family child care. It refers to the kind of care that is provided in the home of the caregiver. Usually the caregiver is licensed and regulated. Family child cares have a small size of children to care for and offer similar security as day care centers. However, they offer the benefits of lower costs, ease of accessibility, cultural compatibility, and flexibility in hours.

Home-based care providers individualize their care a lot. This way, they often meet the needs and expectations of most working families. This form of childcare is very affordable compared to the others. The small number of children cared for in home-based care allows for more child-caregiver interaction than in other facilities, especially commercial ones.

In-home care makes another form of child minding. Care in this case is offered by friends, family members, nannies, or au pairs. The child may be supervised and cared for in their own homes or in the homes of the caregiver. Thus, exposure to illness and outside children is limited. A strong bond develops between the child and the caregiver due to close interaction.

There is no government regulation in in-home care. This means that caregivers are not licensed and there are no background check performed on them to confirm if they are suitable for this job. Therefore, it is solely the responsibility of the parent to ensure that they pick the right caregiver. Of all forms of child minding, cost per child is highest in in-home care.

There are au pair and nanny services that provide people with caregivers who are certified. The nannies have some training in childcare. Thus, they understand how to provide a safe and stimulating setting for the well-being of the child. Nannies may also help with household activities like doing laundry, cleaning the house, shopping, and fixing meals.
