Cedar Park Recycling Eliminates Waste

By Linda Ruiz

When hearing about recycling, many people may think that only those who are thought of as "tree huggers" would be interested. However, this is just not the case. For many in Cedar Park recycling is just a way of life, something that they have gotten into the habit of doing. People do not have to be extreme recyclers to make a difference in the world that they live in.

The reasoning's behind the decision to recycle are many. One reason may be the concern of overflowing landfills. Many coastal cities choose to dump their waste into the ocean. This act can be quite dangerous and harmful to animals living in the sea. Over half of the trash in the landfills is recyclable. Less land could be used as landfills if people would only recycle their trash.

Recycling can actually increase a community's property values while also cutting down on the area's waste. Seriously, do you know of anyone who wants to live next to a stinky landfill? When a community recycles, the space needed for trash is less, which draws more people to the area. This popularity of the city then increases what people are willing to pay to live there.

Recycling, as hard as it is to believe, can cause a city to create more cash flow. People of the community can sell their metals and plastics to companies who will, in turn, resell them to the manufactures who use them to create new products. This saves both time and money as well as natural resources because a brand new product does not have to be made.

With the positives associated with recycling, it is any wonder why everyone doesn't do it. Likely the number one reason people say that they do not recycle is because it is a pain to do so. Many places, for instance those living in rural areas, do not offer curb-side services which means the residents must haul their recyclables to a facility themselves. Many folks just do not want to put in the extra effort that is required of them.

People are, in general, hard to convince that if they recycle the problems with the environment will lessen. When they do not see or hear of quick results, people tend to give up since their efforts do not appear to be making a difference anyhow. It is erroneous to believe that the problems will simply go away.

Admittedly, knowing what items to recycle and what items to throw out can be quite confusing to a beginner. It can be very helpful to have a bin for each type of recyclable, paper, plastic, glass and aluminum. Keeping these near your trash receptacle will make them easier to access, thus making the whole process easier to keep up with.

You need to remember that to recycle is not always about how you throw something away. If you are able to find a new purpose for an item, you are in essence being able to recycle creatively. For instance, decorating a tin can with contact paper can create a lovely pen holder for your desk. You are then using the trash and keeping it out of the landfill.
