If you've been to my site or read any of my other articles, you know that I'm not really a doll "expert", but I have learned in recent months quite a lot about dolls of all types. Why? Because I started a doll website purely for the marketing aspect of it. I'm just a guy who likes business and see this as a good niche. I am also the father of two daughters. And, while they are too old to play with dolls, I still can appreciate that a dad can benefit from another who can share some wisdom.
This is how my opinion came about. Because of my site, I regularly have to write articles about specific dolls. The way I do it is to research the doll, write an article about them, and them turn that page into a section of my doll store. Well, today I researched Monster High Dolls. I was shocked when I saw them. First, they reminded my of Bratz Dolls which look like little street walkers, to me. Secondly, they also reminded me of how young girls use Halloween as an excuse to dress slutty. Have you noticed that they many don't really dress scary or funny looking. They dress like sexy kittens or hot vampires.
Before I get into my two points, I want to address the concept of fashion dolls. I don't have an issue with fashion dolls per Se. By definition, they are dolls that are intended to be dressed to reflect fashion trends. That in itself is not a bad thing. And, if you look at fashion dolls over the years, you'll see that these dolls have been as interesting and tasteful as any other dolls. But, if these fashion dolls are any indication of today's fashion, then heaven help us.
Have you ever seen one of these dolls? Bratz dolls are the epitome of them. They look like little girls who have been made up to look little prostitutes. They put a lot of makeup on them to accent their large eyes, put them in very short skirts and very high heels. It's the kind of look that if you saw your daughter wearing it, you'd make her march right back to her room and change.
Parents, why are you buying these things for your little girls? Do you want them to emulate this look in any way? I doubt it. So, why are you doing it? If you stop, then the manufacturers will stop making them. Seriously, it's that simple. Just say no to the doll.
