There are many YWAM DTS locations all over the world. This is an amazing organization which started in the sixties by Loren Cunningham and his wife, Darlene. The main base is situated in Hawaii, but there are many others in other continents where missionaries do a lot of good work.
A lot of young people do a DTS after school. However, there are courses which are designed for older people as well as those who have young families. Students who come to a base and meet others, know nothing about each other, but soon they become like brother and sister. People who do a course like this report how inspired they have been.
You can go to all four corners of the globe in order to experience something magical and rewarding. There are different ministries available. Some are to do with kids, and others involve teenagers. You can also work with people on the street as well as those in certain circumstances. You have to know what you want out of the experience.
After this, teams will get together in various third world countries or in major cities. They will have a team leader and decide on what their main purpose is going to be. They will either go into schools and work with kids or go onto the streets and deal with the homeless people. They also have to find out about the dangerous situations.
You can do this by sharing your testimony to various people, by reading bible stories, by dancing or even by participating in sports. Some will be more appropriate for smaller kids and others are better suited to teens. For homeless men and women, you may want to start a soup kitchen or reach out to them on the street by praying for them.
Some people believe in a certain cause like homeless children are the sick and then it is better to go to a third world country where you will be exposed to this. Of course, you will be able to find hardship right in the middle of a city where people are in need. Sometimes you have to be careful because it is not possible to preach here.
It is not only those who have been saved on the continents like Asia, Europe, South America and Africa, but Youth with a Mission also works on Ships. They have a ship which goes out to people who are in need and minister to them. You will do your DTS here, and afterwards, you will go with the rest of the students to various third world countries on the ship.
There are some people who have serious conditions and would have never had the chance to see a doctor. In a case like this they would just have gone blind. After a doctor from a YWAM ship has dealt the situation, the patient in a country like Mozambique would be back on track. To them, this is like night and day. For the doctor, it is very rewarding in one of these YWAM DTS locations.
