A Different Kind Of Auction Fundraiser

By Angel Dudley

Talk about an auction fundraiser and the image of a yard full of items, an auctioneer calling out for bids and a gavel that he will hammer down every time an item is sold to the highest bidder rush to mind. Yet there is another way things are being auctioned off and that is through silent auctions. This is the way many charities and organizations are now going when they are holding fund-raising events.

This would be held in a different way than the way auctions are typically held and this is through silent auctions. These kinds of auctions differ from the others in that bidding is done silently on slips of paper. The items on auction are lined up for display to prospective buyers on a table or bench.

People then look at the items, choose what they would most like to have and place their bids for items of their choice on a piece of paper. Anyone interested in the same item checks the bid indicated on the paper and puts down a higher bid in the hope of winning the bid.

Technology has touched every part of life and that includes how auctions are done. There are thus silent online auctions. Here, things are done on the internet. There are auctioneers who will periodically show their wares on the net. The way bidding is done online is that people log on to these sites and will view the items available and see which bids have been placed on each item.

Silent auctions can be held for private functions like bridal and baby showers to get items a bride or newborn would need and they can also be held to liven up corporate functions and raise funds that can be used by the company to make donations. Silent auctions can also be organized by communities like churches, schools and neighborhoods to raise funds for various projects that they wish to initiate.

If you are trying to raise funds for a charity, try and get these high end items as donations before you resort to going out to buy them. One way to do this is to contact designers offices directly. You can send off e-mails to them, explaining your mission to them. Most designers are big on charity and you should find ready assistance in terms of donations.

For a complete list of online silent auctions, use one of the leading search engines and you will get a complete list of them. When bidding over the internet, keep in mind that you will need to face costs of transportation so take a look at where the items you are bidding for are. This is especially important for larger items like cars and machinery. If the price is really good though and the item is in really good condition, it may be worth it to go for it.

They may even do you one better and give you access to teams, players and coaches after a game and should raise the stakes giving you higher bids. To get the most possible, try and get group tickets rather than single ones. Get pairs and even tickets for four which a family can bid for at an auction fundraiser.
