By Jayne Rutledge

The United States of America is famous as the land flowing with milk and honey where many people flock to this Promised Land. However, only few people are aware about the religious and wonderful places of solace that are found in this country. Come, let us journey through the faith worship destinations in America.

The Bahai House of Worship in Wilmette, Illinois is strategically located just about half hour away from the state of Chicago. This is the solitary temple in North America for those who belong to the Bahai faith whose origins can be traced back in the 19th century from Persia. A white lace appearance of this elaborately designed structure is due to the combination of cement and quarts and the plethora of fountains surrounding the gardens.

Another well-known edifice where Catholics take refuge is the St. Patrick's Cathedral that can be found in the middle of the city of New York. Built in 1879, this Neo-Gothic inspired building exudes the glorious marbles in the outside and the colorful glass stained windows. Compared with the adjacent skyscrapers, this structure is not as grand but still people flocks here to offer their prayers or to simply admire the majestic scenery.

Meanwhile, Hsi Lai Temple which can be found in Hacienda Heights, California serves as the place of worship for the members of the Buddhist faith. Although just recently built in 1988, the temple reflects the ancient Chinese dynasty of Ming and Ch'ing which dates back to the 14th and 20th century. When viewed from bird's eye view, the temple shows the bodhi leaf which was the iconic tree where the moment of Buddha's enlightenment took place.

For the plethora of Arab-Muslim people, they flock to Dearborn, Michigan and offer their prayer at the grand Islamic Center of America. A gigantic 65,000-square-foot edifice, this mosque serves to around 5,000 families since it opened its doors in 2005. Outside the mosque are the structures carved in stone and the dome in distinct fiberglass appearance while inside the structure are the calligraphy of Quranic verses, gemstone chandeliers, imported granites, and prayer room of Islamic decors.

Meanwhile, people of Presbyterian faith finds solace in the beautiful Memorial Presbyterian Church situated in St. Augustine, Florida. Built in 1889, the historical church entombed the founding family Henry Morrison Flagler, his first wife Mary, his daughter Jenny Louise Benedict and his granddaughter Marjorie. This unique and majestic church showcases stained-glass windows and wood-carved walls similar to the European cathedrals.

Situated at the heart of New York City, the Temple Emanu-El is among the world`s grandest Jewish temple. Accommodating 2,500 individuals since its construction in 1929, this vibrant edifice stands at an enormous 175 feet in length, 100 feet in width, and 103 feet in height. Inside the magnificent temple are the arches with glass mosaics, more than 60 windows made of stained glass, and ceilings that are painted and gilded.

People can still deepen their faith worship experience at the plethora of sites with deep religious connections scattered all over the country. Even those who do not particularly have faith can still get inspired and marvel at the various edifices. What a way to experience the pilgrimage sites in the USA.
